Warming Up A New House with Soup

Image
It's called a house warming for a reason so we thought, what better way to warm a house than with a soup menu? The client had fond memories of parties her parents would throw with a menu of nothing but rich, soul satisfying soups accompanied by cheese plates and homemade breads. Given that, our menu staples were three very different soups (and one chili) served from heavy saucepans right in the kitchen. It just so happened that the party fell on St. Patrick's Day so I guess you could say we made the party green by using compostable Verterra plates (made with fallen leaves) and cups labeled very simply with "Soup." Another way we did that was by including an irresistible specialty drink called Green 17. No mystery here. It had 17 ingredients (for the March 17th date) and it was green! In addition to being a house warming, this event was also a birthday party so dessert required a little special attention. In all, there was a lot to celebrate! The house had yet to be f...

A Long Lunch with David Pressman

Image
By Pauline Parry Continuing my series on interesting people in the industry and what makes them tick, I interviewed wedding and event designer, David Pressman over a long lunch. His background in fashion, art and entertainment makes him a wonderful lunch companion and of course a meticulous designer. A quote in his bio says it all: "It was designer Mary McFadden that introduced David to some of the most high-profile women in the world, telling him that intelligence and a quick wit would serve him well in a world dominated by women." Of course, that combination took him far in the New York fashion world, then later the event world. When he transferred his center of gravity from New York to Los Angeles and started David Pressman Events , it served him well here too! In the spirit of our long lunch that meandered from subject to subject, I am doing something different with photos of David's work in this post and have placed them between questions. Think of each as a deliciou...
